Bulgarian Prime Minister Sergei Stanishev Tuesday arrived in Shanghai, the second city on the schedule of his four-day official visit to the People's Republic of China. On Wednesday, the guest will confer with Chamber of International Commerce Shanghai (COIC SH) Chairman Cen Furong, after which a Bulgarian-Chinese business forum will take place.
Also on Wednesday, the PM is scheduled to visit the Shanghai Museum of Urban Planning and to confer with Shanghai Mayor Han Zheng. In the afternoon, Stanishev will deliver a lecture on "EU Enlargement and Bulgaria's Contribution to the EU" at Fudan University.
Before leaving Beijing, the Bulgarian head of government had a session with Wu Bangguo, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, in the building of the Chinese Parliament.
Stanishev's visit was covered by "China Daily," which stressed its highlights: the aspiration to expand bilateral trade and economic cooperation, to increase trade and to build up joint ventures.
The newspaper notes the congratulations that the Bulgarian Prime Minister received from his Chinese counterpart Wen Jiabao on Bulgaria's upcoming accession to the EU.
The daily covers the Bulgarian-Chinese economic and trade forum held in Beijing and quotes Stanishev as saying that "his country
would contribute to the development of the EU-China strategic partnership. He said his country was willing to serve as a bridge for Chinese enterprises to expand their presence in the European market."
