PM Stanishev Opens Official Visit to China

Following a long flight and a stopover at Tashkent, Bulgaria's Prime Minister Sergei Stanishev arrived Sunday on an official visit to the People's Republic of China at the invitation of his

Chinese counterpart Wen Jiabao. The visit will last until November 23. Within the visit Stanishev will be in Beijing and Shanghai. The official welcoming ceremony will be held in front of the National People's Congress on Monday. There the two delegations will hold plenary talks. According to information from the Government's Press Service, the sides will sign the following bilateral documents: a joint intergovernmental declaration, an agreement on economic cooperation, an agreement concerning the properties of the two countries' embassies, and a cooperation agreement between the Bulgarian National Radio and the Chinese National Radio. Stanishev is scheduled to confer with Chinese Vice President Zeng Qinghong and with the Chairman of the National People's Congress Wu Bangguo. Stanishev is to open a Bulgarian-Chinese Economic and Trade Forum, organized by the Chinese Council for Foreign Trade Promotion and to attend a ceremony for the unveiling of a monument to Bulgarian poet Hristo Botev. In Shanghai Stanishev is to deliver a lecture at the Foreign Relations Academy of the Fudan University. He will unveil a Bulgarian-Chinese Business Forum and will confer with China Europe International Business School Honorary Chairman Liu Ji and Prof. David Gosset, Director of Academia Sinica Europaea and

lecturer at the same school. Stanishev will visit the Shanghai Chamber of Commerce and will talk to Shanghai Mayor Han Zheng. The Bulgarian Prime Minister is to visit the site of the Expo 2010, the Shanghai World Expo and the offices of the SVA Group which has invested in a TV set-making plant in Veliko Turnovo (Northern Bulgaria). The official Bulgarian delegation includes Economy and Energy Minister Roumen Ovcharov, Filip Bokov, Chief of the Prime Minister's Office, diplomats, MPs, deputy ministers, advisers and journalists.
